Large phase shift via polarization-coupling cascading.

Herein, we propose a phenomenon of "polarization-coupling (PC) cascading" generated in MgO doped periodically poled lithium niobate crystal (PPMgLN). PC cascading contributes to the effective electro-optical (EO) Kerr effect that is several orders of magnitude stronger than the classical ones. Experiment of Newton's rings demonstrates the large phase accumulation during the PC cascaded processe...

Shift-coupling and convergence rates of ergodic averages

We study convergence of Markov chains {Xk} to their stationary distributions π(·). Much recent work has used coupling to get quantitative bounds on the total variation distance between the law L(Xn) and π(·). In this paper, we use shift-coupling to get quantitative bounds on the total variation distance between the ergodic average law 1 n n ∑ k=1 L(Xk) and π(·). This avoids certain problems, re...

One-loop Shift in Noncommutative Chern-Simons Coupling

In this paper we study the one-loop shift in the coupling constant in a noncommutative pureU(N) Chern-Simons gauge theory in three dimensions. The one-loop shift is shown to be a constant proportional to N , independent of noncommutativity parameters, and non-vanishing for U(1) theory. Possible physical and mathematical implications of this result are discussed.

Quantitative modeling of coupling-induced resonance frequency shift in microring resonators.

We present a detailed study on the behavior of coupling-induced resonance frequency shift (CIFS) in dielectric microring resonators. CIFS is related to the phase responses of the coupling region of the resonator coupling structure, which are examined for various geometries through rigorous numerical simulations. Based on the simulation results, a model for the phase responses of the coupling st...
